YOUR YOUTH YOUR FORTUNE (CONTD)

Neil Armstrong was acclaimed as a great hero all over the world when he became the first man to land on the moon. Fate did not offer him success on a silver platter. Success came to him because he had already perspired a lot in his job.
It is instructive to know the steps Neil Armstrong followed to climb the ladder of success. At six, he accompanied his father for his first airplane ride. Then he made the first model airplane. Hundreds more followed, till he felt satisfied.
He had no time for comics. He devoured books and magazines on aviation. He read ninety books during his first year in school, and so jumped the next class. At 17, he studied aeronautical engineering at the university.

Lives of al these great men lead us to the conclusion that success does not come to those who flirt with their youth and flout the spirit of disciplined work. Nor does it come by seeking charity from fate. Success woos a person if he learns to keep before him the following motto right from the early age: “Fruits of labour are sweeter than gifts of fortune.”

SOMETHING EXTRA

Life is a great adventure in which we are likely to receive hard knocks. But we should not let jolts fill us with shattering gloom. On the other hand, when confronted with unfavourable situations, we should display a sportsman-like attitude. The Nawab of Pataudi lost his one eye while playing a cricket match. But this did not wear him away from cricket. In fact, his zeal for the game continues unabated as ever.

Dr. Joseph Murphy rightly observes, “If you really want peace of mind and inner calm, you will get it. Regardless how unjustly you have been treated or how unfair the boss has been or what a mean scoundrel someone has proved to be, all this makes no differences to you when you awaken to your mental and spiritual powers.

You know what you want and you will definitely refuse to let the thieves (thoughts) of hatred, anger, hostility and ill-will rob you of peace, harmony, health and happiness.”
He goes on, “You cease to become upset by people, conditions, news and events by identifying your thoughts immediately with your aim in life.”
